Desire Riviera Maya & Desire Pearl: Honest Reviews for Lifestyle Couples

Desire Riviera Maya and Desire Pearl are the two lifestyle resorts that Original Group runs in Puerto Morelos. Both are for couples only, and both let you choose to be nude. They follow the same rules, but a week at each one feels quite different. This Desire Riviera Maya review lands on a clear split: book Riviera Maya for the louder, more social scene with more bars and pool energy, and book Desire Pearl for bigger rooms, a calmer pool, a better hot tub, and an older, quieter crowd.

Key Takeaways

  • Both Desire resorts are couples-only and 21+, allow nudity at the pools, beach, and Jacuzzi Lounge, and permit sex only in your room and the designated couples-only play spaces.
  • Desire Riviera Maya is the bigger, livelier property, with nine bars, two pools, and the Eden suite section. Guests repeatedly describe its main pool as crowded at peak hours.
  • Desire Pearl has 3 restaurants and 4 bars, a larger single pool, and a ground-floor Jacuzzi Lounge that guest reports rate above Riviera Maya’s rooftop one.
  • WINTER27, VELVET26, and LUSTM were live at both resorts on Desire’s official promotions feed on October 9, 2026. PEARL5 was not, and its booking link returned an expired-link error.
  • The most common complaints at both resorts are not about the lifestyle at all: Premier membership sales pitches, tier wristbands, early-morning bed reservations, and seasonal sargassum seaweed.

If you already know which one you want, check current rates at Desire Riviera Maya or see availability at Desire Pearl. If you’re still deciding, the rest of this review is built to settle it.

How Do Desire Riviera Maya and Desire Pearl Compare at a Glance?

Desire Riviera Maya is the scene and Desire Pearl is the retreat, and the official facility counts make that obvious before you read a single guest review. Every fact in the table below comes from Desire’s official resort pages and house rules, accessed October 7 and 9, 2026.

One number in that table deserves skepticism. Both resorts state an average guest age of 30 to 45, but independent guest reporting consistently puts the real crowd older, especially at Pearl. We’ll come back to that, because it matters more than room size for a lot of couples.

How Open Do Things Actually Get at Desire Resorts?

Both Desire properties are genuinely clothing-optional and openly swinger-friendly, and both draw hard lines around where sex is allowed. Desire Riviera Maya’s FAQ says outright, “We are proud to be a lifestyle and swinger-friendly resort,” and Pearl’s calls itself “a swinger-friendly resort” where couples can mingle with like-minded guests “if they choose.” That last phrase is the whole etiquette system in four words: nobody is obligated to do anything, and “No means No” is the first house rule at both.

Here is how each space works, based on the two resorts’ published house rules and FAQs.

SpaceClothingSex permitted?Who can enter
Main pools and beachNudity allowed at bothNo, at either resortAll guests
Jacuzzi LoungeNudity allowed at bothYes at Riviera Maya; Pearl’s FAQ says yes, though its house-rules page lists only the room and PlayroomCouples only

Private Couples’ LoungeNudity allowedYes (Riviera Maya only)Couples only
Your roomYour callYes; the only place photos are allowedYou and your invited guests

Three practical rules shape the experience more than any marketing copy. Photos are not allowed in any public area at either resort, and the 2022 trip report quoted below advises asking for camera-cover stickers for your phone at check-in. Day and night passes aren’t sold to outsiders, so everyone you meet is a registered couple. And if you’re staying at one Desire, you can buy a day pass to the other, which makes a split week realistic.

If you and your partner haven’t agreed on what “playing” means for you yet, settle that before you fly. Our explainer on soft swap vs full swap gives you the vocabulary other couples at Desire will use.

Desire Riviera Maya Review: What Is the Livelier Desire Really Like?

Desire Riviera Maya is the more social, more crowded, more explicitly lifestyle-driven of the two, and it rewards couples who want the scene to be the point of the trip. The official site leans on “absolute freedom” and “you dictate the intensity,” and guest reports back that up with a busy pool, an energetic lobby bar, and theme nights where most women and about half the men dress up.

Atmosphere and Crowd

The daytime center of gravity is the Sensual Pool, with a swim-up bar and the program of pool games the resort runs every day. Riviera Maya hosts a Garden of Eden Pool Party on Wednesdays and a Piña Colada Foam Party on Fridays. At night, energy moves to the lobby bar, then to the shows and the disco.

The most detailed independent account we found is a February 2022 trip report on the CancunCare forum by a couple who stayed 7 nights at Riviera Maya and 8 at Pearl back to back. They estimated the Riviera Maya crowd at an average age of 45 to 55, with roughly 50% of women fully unclothed at the pool and another 40% topless. Those are one couple’s estimates, not resort data, but they’re far more specific than anything the resort publishes.

Rooms at Desire Riviera Maya

Room categories, per the official rooms page on October 9, 2026, step up like this:

  • Deluxe Garden View, Deluxe Ocean View, Deluxe “Relax Pool” View: the entry tier, with a king bed, balcony or terrace, and a daily minibar.
  • Superior Garden View: the same style with 15 square meters of extra living space.
  • Jacuzzi Room Garden View and Ocean View: an in-room jacuzzi sized for four, which is the practical upgrade for couples who expect to host.
  • Heavenly Garden-View Rooms: next to The Eden, with butler service and free room service.
  • Oceanfront Passion Suites: private jacuzzi, oceanfront deck, butler, airport transfer, and a VIP beach bed.
  • Desire Suites: two-floor seafront suites with a private swim-up pool and a 5-night minimum.

The Eden suites (Beloved, Seductive, and Diamond families, topping out at the 111.6-square-meter Diamond Ocean-View Jacuzzi Suite) sit inside the same resort. Our guide to swinger resorts in Cancun and the Riviera Maya breaks Eden down separately.

Our read on room value: at Riviera Maya, spend on location in the resort, not square footage. The 2022 trip report called the Deluxe Ocean View “about the size of a standard hotel room with a thin strip of ocean” and advised booking the most basic room, since you’ll barely be in it. The exception is couples who know they’ll invite another couple back. For them, the Jacuzzi Room is the cheapest category with a real hosting setup.

The Playroom and Jacuzzi Lounge

Riviera Maya has more general-access play space than any other Original Group resort in Mexico: a Playroom, the Jacuzzi Lounge, and a Private Couples’ Lounge, all couples-only. Guest feedback on the Playroom itself is mostly about layout. One member of a DesireMexico.com community forum thread described the newer Playroom’s beds as large enough for group play but arranged so it’s hard to interact across beds, which suits couples who want privacy in a shared room more than couples who want an open-floor mixer.

The Jacuzzi Lounge is the weak spot. The 2022 trip report describes it as small, about 40 stairs up, and packed at two predictable times, around 4:30 p.m. and again near 11:30 p.m. after the evening party. If the Jacuzzi Lounge is your idea of the main event, Pearl’s is better.

Desire Riviera Maya: Pros and Cons

  • Pro: The most social energy of the two resorts, with more bars and more evening options.
  • Pro: The better beach, according to guests who’ve stayed at both.
  • Pro: Three couples-only play spaces, not two.
  • Con: The main pool gets crowded enough that some couples retreat to the beach all week.
  • Con: Entry-level rooms are small and the views are often partial.
  • Con: Couples-only and, by the resort’s own description, aimed at “open-minded, heterosexual couples,” so it’s the wrong pick if you’re hoping to meet single guests.

Desire Pearl Review: Is the Quieter Desire Worth It?

Yes, if you want the Desire rulebook at a lower volume, with better rooms for the money, a superior pool and hot tub, and a crowd that skews older and calmer. Pearl calls itself “the exquisite gem of Desire” and markets an “upscale experience,” and on the physical product that claim mostly holds. The trade-offs are less nightlife energy, fewer dining options, and more maintenance complaints in recent reviews.

Atmosphere and Crowd

Pearl runs its pool parties on Thursdays (Waves of Desire) and Saturdays (Pineapple Foam Party), with evening entertainment staged in the lobby before guests move to the disco for the show. The couple behind the 2022 CancunCare trip report found Pearl’s bands better than Riviera Maya’s but the overall energy lower, partly because the lobby bar sits inside rather than out in the open.

The age gap is the biggest thing the resort’s marketing leaves out. That same report estimated Pearl’s average guest age at 55 to 65, with no guests they judged to be under 35, and about 40% of women fully unclothed and another 40% topless at the pool. Recent Tripadvisor reviews include couples who have stayed at Pearl around 10 times over eight years, which fits that loyal, older profile. For mature couples, that’s a selling point, and our mature swinger guide pairs well with a Pearl booking. For couples in their 30s, it can feel like the wrong party.

Rooms at Desire Pearl

Pearl’s room ladder, per its official resort page on October 9, 2026:

  • Ocean View Room: king bed, sitting area, and private balcony or terrace.
  • Junior Suite: an extended living area and a terrace over the gardens or the sea.
  • Master Suite: separate living and dining lounge behind folding doors, two bathrooms, and a whirlpool tub.
  • Master Suite with Plunge Pool: a private plunge pool on an ocean-view balcony, plus butler and turndown service.
  • Penthouse Passion Suite with Plunge Pool: two levels, a full kitchen, outdoor dining, and a rooftop plunge pool, with airport transfers included.

Room size is where Pearl wins outright. The 2022 trip report described the Pearl Master Suite as roughly five times the size of their Riviera Maya Deluxe room, with a proper ocean view. If you plan to host in your room, a Pearl Master Suite gives you a living area and a second bathroom, which matters more for a four-person evening than any jacuzzi.

Desire Mansion

Desire Mansion is Pearl’s VIP enclave: Mansion Swim-Up Suites, Mansion Jacuzzi Suites, Mansion Royal Suites, and Mansion Royal Oceanfront Suites. Listed benefits include a Mansion-only playroom, a private pool, top-shelf spirits, included spa and beauty salon services, a butler, private round-trip airport transfers, exclusive dining service, and 24-hour room service. Based on the official pages, it’s the only section in Original Group’s Mexico portfolio with its own separate VIP playroom. One recent returning guest on Tripadvisor noted it has “only a small number of rooms,” so book early if it’s the reason you’re going.

The Playroom and Jacuzzi Lounge

Pearl’s Jacuzzi Lounge is the property’s best feature for lifestyle couples. Guest reports describe it as large, on the ground floor, and less “in your face” than Riviera Maya’s, which makes it a comfortable place for newer couples to socialize without pressure. The Playroom is a different story. A Tripadvisor reviewer, whose review is syndicated on Luxury Link, called it small and said it doesn’t open until about 10:30 p.m., a real limitation for couples who fade early.

Desire Pearl: Pros and Cons

  • Pro: Bigger, better-value suites, especially the Master Suite tier.
  • Pro: The best pool and hot tub of the two, according to guests who compared them directly.
  • Pro: Within reach of Puerto Morelos town, about a 25-minute walk along the beach per the 2022 trip report.
  • Con: Lower nightlife energy and fewer restaurants and bars.
  • Con: A late-opening, smaller Playroom.
  • Con: Recent reviews report dated standard rooms, restaurant closures on low-occupancy nights, and heavy sargassum seaweed on the public beach.

Which Theme Nights Run at Each Desire Resort?

Both resorts run a dress-code theme night every evening, and five themes appear at both properties on different nights. Schedules below come from each resort’s official entertainment listings as of October 7, 2026; they can change, so confirm the weekly sheet at check-in.

NightDesire Riviera MayaDesire Pearl
SundayDesire HaremGents & Maids
MondayBetween the Sheets (lingerie)Purple Seduction
TuesdayBoop’s Boudoir (black and red, pin-up)Between the Sheets (lingerie)
WednesdaySubs & Doms (latex, leather, masks)Boop’s Boudoir
ThursdayGents & MaidsSubs & Doms
FridayDesert of DesireCountry Neon
SaturdayNot listed on the page we accessedDesert of Desire

The overlap is useful for packing. Five themes repeat across both resorts (Between the Sheets, Boop’s Boudoir, Subs & Doms, Gents & Maids, Desert of Desire), so a couple splitting a week between properties can pack one outfit per theme and still dress for every night. Pearl adds Purple Seduction and Country Neon; Riviera Maya adds Desire Harem.

Who Should Book Which Desire Resort?

Choose by the evening you want, not the room you want. Here’s how we’d decide:

  • First lifestyle resort, nervous about pressure: Desire Pearl. The bigger, ground-floor Jacuzzi Lounge and calmer pace make it easier to watch, talk, and leave.
  • Couples in their 30s and 40s who want a party: Desire Riviera Maya. Guest reporting places its crowd younger than Pearl’s and its nights louder.
  • Couples who want to host in-room: a Pearl Master Suite, or a Jacuzzi Room at Riviera Maya on a tighter budget.
  • Experienced couples who want privacy plus the scene: The Eden at Riviera Maya, or Desire Mansion at Pearl if a VIP-only playroom matters.
  • Couples who can’t decide: split the week. The 2022 trip report’s verdict was “ideally perhaps split half and half,” and the transfer between resorts took about 25 minutes. Two separate bookings cost more effort than one, but you get Riviera Maya’s energy and Pearl’s rooms in a single trip.

What Do Guests Complain About at Both Desire Resorts?

The recurring complaints at both Desire resorts are about the business model and the beach, not the lifestyle. Read them before you book, because each one has a simple workaround.

  • Membership sales pitches. Several recent Tripadvisor reviewers, syndicated on Luxury Link, describe being approached about Premier vacation club membership within minutes of arrival. A polite, firm “no thanks” at check-in is enough.
  • Tier wristbands. The same reviewers say color-coded wristbands show who is a member, and some non-members felt they got slower service. One reviewer also disliked wearing the resort wristband into town.
  • Bed reservations. Guests at both properties report needing to claim pool or beach beds around 6:30 to 7:00 a.m., with Premier members holding many of the best spots.
  • Dinner reservations. In the 2022 report, Riviera Maya took reservations at noon each day and Pearl at 7 a.m., and some restaurants close on certain nights. One recent Pearl reviewer who stayed in September reported two buffet-only nights when restaurants closed for low occupancy.
  • Sargassum. Seasonal seaweed is a Caribbean-wide problem, but multiple Pearl reviewers describe heavy buildup and smell. Pearl’s beach is also public, so passersby are common, while Riviera Maya’s beach is more secluded.
  • No way to signal what you’re into. One frustrated Pearl reviewer pointed out that the resort mixes naturists, curious couples, and swingers with no visible way to tell them apart. That’s by design at both resorts, and it puts the burden on conversation. Couples who want better odds often connect with other guests on lifestyle apps or resort forums before arrival.

Couples who also want to compare cruises should read our swinger cruise comparison, which covers what a week on a Desire charter costs.

What Desire Promo Codes Work Right Now?

Three promo codes were live at both Desire resorts on Desire’s official promotions feed when we checked on October 9, 2026. Each one requires booking direct through the official site, applies to new reservations only, and can’t be combined with another offer.

A note on PEARL5: older affiliate banners advertised a PEARL5 code for Desire Pearl. It did not appear on Desire’s official promotions feed on October 9, 2026, and its booking link returned a “Wrong link or expired link” message, so don’t plan around it. Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the trip you want. Desire Riviera Maya is livelier, with 9 bars, two pools, and three couples-only play spaces. Desire Pearl is quieter, with larger suites, a bigger pool, a better Jacuzzi Lounge, and a crowd that guest reports place older.

Yes. Desire Pearl’s official FAQ calls it a swinger-friendly resort that respects all adult lifestyles. It is couples-only and 21+, clothing-optional at the main pool, beach, Jacuzzi Lounge, and Playroom, and couples can mingle with other guests only if they choose.

No. Neither Desire resort allows sex at the main pools or on the beach. It is allowed in your room and in the couples-only Playroom and Jacuzzi Lounge, plus the Private Couples’ Lounge at Desire Riviera Maya, according to each resort’s house rules.

Desire Pearl says its average guest is 30 to 45. Independent guest reporting suggests an older crowd: a detailed 2022 trip report on the CancunCare forum estimated Pearl’s average guest age at 55 to 65, compared with 45 to 55 at Desire Riviera Maya.

Yes. Desire resorts don’t sell day or night passes to outside visitors, but registered guests at one Desire property can buy a day pass to the sister resort. The transfer between the two takes roughly 25 minutes.

Not as of October 9, 2026. PEARL5 was absent from Desire’s official promotions feed and its booking link returned an expired-link message. The live codes that day were WINTER27, VELVET26, and LUSTM, all booked direct through the official site.

What’s the Bottom Line on Desire Riviera Maya vs Desire Pearl?

Book Desire Riviera Maya if you want the busiest version of the lifestyle resort experience and you’re happy trading room size for energy. Book Desire Pearl if you value the room, the pool, and a quieter hot tub more than the party, and you’re comfortable with an older crowd. Both enforce the same consent-first rules, and both are honest about what they are: couples-only, clothing-optional resorts where play is permitted in specific, couples-only spaces.
